Before I talk about the wildlife park, lets talk a little about how important it is to be open to meetign new people and experiencing new things. Shortly after we arrived, we visited the Grand Mosque. There, we met our tour guide, Sultan. Though from Bahrain, Sultan identifies as Black. He invited us to his mosque, an English speaking one, and has been a friend ever since.
When visiting his mosque, he introduced us to a young lady named Nawshaba. She has been awesome, checking on our well being, introducing us to new restaurants, and even inviting us to her family home.
At Attic, see previous post, we spoke up and have found what we hope to be lifelong friends.
One day while at the hotel, we spoke to an American woman named Robin, that has also turned into a great relationship. Robin and I have rode to work together ever since (until she switched hotels on us). We’ve played games at our hotel, shared wine, and talked race relations in the US.
Now I’ll get back to the post about the wildlife park. One Thursday afternoon, Robin invited us to go with her to the wildlife reserve. We went there on a Friday morning, and didn’t realize that the shuttle bus that tours you through the park wasn’t operational during prayer hours. As a result, they tried to sell us a golf cart package for 10BD ($26.50). We immediately said no and started our walk.
As we got to the bird enclosure, we see that a guy in the golf cart is waiting outside. As we finish with the bird portion, he asks again if we want the cart. We ask if he will take 5BD, and he said no, 10. We say that well walk. After about 5 minutes of this, he agrees to 5BD. Boy were we glad. We had not idea the park was as big as it was. It is not a walk-able park.
