Moving Into Our Home

For anyone who’s moved into a new house, that time can be stressful.  Couple that with doing so in a new country!

Let me start by saying from one real estate agent to another, Miranda Bond is THE BEST agent in Bahrain!  Now let me go back to the beginning.  Real estate in Bahrain is a little different that in the states.  There are no exclusive agency agreements (at least not for buyers).  As a result, every agent has their primary selection of properties.  Because of this, it’s best to use multiple agents.  Each agent will show you the properties with which they have relationships with the owners.

Based on our budget, we didn’t have a huge wish list, but we did have a few things that we knew we wanted: at least 4 bedrooms (for when we have visitors – begin optimistic here), modern furniture, American washer/dryer (that’ll be another post), a pool (preferably private), and near things like a grocery store, restaurants, etc.  We started out with one realtor who showed us a few properties, but none really spoke to us.  There was one in a nice neighborhood, but the pool was 10 feet deep the entire way across and there was nothing nearby.  Another property was new, but over budget.  Another had beach access, but only had 3 bedrooms.  Each one was riddled with issues and didn’t meet the requirements.

Along came Miranda.  She showed us winner after winner, with each one step ahead of the last.  Finally we settled on a Hidden Gem (the neighborhood is called Hidd…see what I did there, lol).  Three formal bedrooms, but has a fourth room that is currently used as a movie room, private pool with pool cover, modern furniture with a reasonably sized electric kitchen with dishwasher, a second kitchen outside with gas appliances, two car garage, utilities inclusive, etc.

But little did we know, we’d have the most amazing landlord!  We’ve asked for little things to be done and purchased, and he got them with no questions asked.  He heard that we liked the Arabic incense, he brought us an incense pot and some incense.  He heard is say we like trying new foods, he brought us breakfast over one morning.  He’s been great!

Ok, enough of me talking, take a look at some pics!

    1. Can’t wait to have you here! From what I’ve heard, the best months are October – April. In May/June it isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t call it vacation weather. Even now, while I wouldn’t recommend anyone coming that didn’t have to be here, it’s not unbearable. In Florida we had weather like 95, feels like 110. Here it IS 110, feels like 110.

    1. Canada….where have I been! I thought you were in Boston. Are you planning to be there permanently? If so, or at least for a few years, we may try to visit when we come back stateside. I’ve never been to Canada. I’ve never been to Boston either though, so I could always visit you there. We’re still working on getting settled in, but we’ve done a much better job at it that I expected so far. Keep in touch!
